The PDT lamp is a type of photodynamic therapy that uses LED light and a photosensitizing substance to treat various skin problems.
At Hautarzt Uribe Holmgren we use this technology mainly to treat various skin infections and skin cancer.
The PDT lamp is used to apply a specific wavelength of light to the affected area of the skin, allowing treatment to be precisely targeted to the cancerous tumor without greatly affecting surrounding healthy tissues.
Unlike other skin cancer treatments, the PDT lamp has virtually no side effects. This is because the therapy targets cancer cells and does not significantly damage nearby healthy cells.
The PDT lamp specifically targets cancer cells, which helps to preserve as much of the surrounding healthy tissue as possible during treatment. This is especially important in aesthetically visible or functional areas, such as the face or hands.
In addition to treating superficial cancerous or pre-cancerous lesions, PDT lamp treatment is used to treat other skin diseases such as acne.
Compared to other procedures, especially for treating skin cancer, PDT lamp treatment is relatively quick and many times less invasive.
