SKIN DISEASES

Rosacea

Rosacea is a chronic skin disease that mainly affects the face and is characterized by facial redness. It is produced by a mite called Demodex folliculorum which is a parasite that resides in the sebaceous glands.

It is a very common inhabitant of the skin and in moderate amounts does not usually cause problems. However, in cases of excessive proliferation it may contribute to the development of skin conditions.

Rosacea can affect people of all ages and ethnic backgrounds, although it is more common in fair-skinned people.

Rosacea can present in various forms:

Eritematotelangiectásica

Eritematotelangiectatic

Persistent redness of the skin, often accompanied by dilated veins on the face.

ROSACEA

Possible Cause

Although the exact cause of rosacea is not yet fully understood, it is believed that a combination of genetic and environmental factors contribute to its development. Common triggers include sun exposure, stress, alcohol, spicy foods and certain medications.

Rosacea cannot be cured, but treatments can help control symptoms and prevent progression of the disease. Treatments may include topical medications, oral antibiotics, laser therapy and lifestyle changes.

Rosacea Care Tips

  • Cleanse the face regularly once or twice a day, for example, in the morning after waking up and in the evening before going to bed.
  • Generally, a deep cleansing of the skin with a Hydrafacial® should be performed once a year.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly before cleaning your face!
  • Ice water or water that is too hot irritates sensitive blood vessels, so it is recommended to use lukewarm water for facial cleansing.
  • Avoid greasy or oily facial care products and cosmetics with additives. We recommend the care and cleansing products of the special series for skin with rosacea.
  • Makeup is allowed: there are modern makeups that have been developed specifically to conceal skin redness.
  • Protect daily from UV rays with a sun protection factor of 50+.
  • Avoid excessive alcohol consumption, as it helps dilate blood vessels and dries out the skin.
  • In the case of using makeup, first use the medication, then sunscreen and finally makeup.
