Ambulatory surgery involves performing and discharging the patient on the same day. This means that there are no major restrictions or alterations in the patient’s daily life.
Smaller interventions aimed at obtaining tissue samples are known as biopsies. These are necessary in some cases to evaluate and understand possible diseases in order to diagnose the correct treatment. Outpatient surgery can be performed to remove suspicious or malignant skin changes (such as tumors or pre-tumors) or simply to get rid of an aesthetically discomforting skin change.
All tissue samples taken in outpatient surgery are sent to the laboratory for examination. After a maximum of 10 days, the results are obtained and a “doctor-patient” appointment is made to evaluate the best treatment.
