Autoimmune Skin Diseases

Autoimmune skin diseases are medical disorders in which the body’s immune system, which should normally protect it from outside invaders such as bacteria and viruses, becomes overactive and begins to attack its own tissues and skin cells. This autoimmune process triggers a variety of skin conditions that can manifest themselves in different ways.

Symptoms of these diseases can range from rashes, blisters and skin lesions to changes in skin coloration and texture. Diagnosis and treatment of autoimmune skin diseases can be challenging and often require the attention of dermatologists and, in some cases, rheumatologists or other specialists. Treatment may include medications to control the immune response and relieve skin symptoms.

Diseases

Some of the most common autoimmune skin diseases include:
  • Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
  • Scleroderma.
  • Dermatomyositis.
  • Vasculitis.
  • Psoriasis.
  • Among others.
Each of these diseases has distinctive characteristics, but they share the common denominator that the immune system goes wrong and attacks the skin abnormally.

Treatments

Depending on the disease, our team of professionals will evaluate the correct treatment, control and follow-up plans.
