Cryosurgery

Cryosurgery is a medical procedure that involves the use of extreme cold to destroy or remove abnormal tissue or lesions in the body. In cryosurgery, a specialized device that releases a cooling agent, such as liquid nitrogen or solid carbon dioxide, is used to freeze the target tissue.

When the tissue is cooled to very low temperatures, freezing occurs, damaging the cells and blood vessels in the area, which in turn leads to destruction of the lesion. This procedure is especially useful in the treatment of certain dermatological conditions, such as precancerous skin lesions, warts, and actinic keratoses.

Cryosurgery is a minimally invasive technique.
Often, multiple sessions are required to achieve complete removal of the lesion. After the procedure, there may be redness, swelling and crusting of the treated area, which will later fall off. It has a relatively short recovery time compared to other surgical procedures.
